YMCA Glenrothes has always been steeped in the tradition of youth work. Young people firmly remain at the heart of what we do. YouthLife is a 3-year funded position by the Young Start National Lottery Community Fund and works in conjunction with Fife Council’s Community learning and development team. YouthLife have started working with “low attenders” from Glenrothes High School to engage with young people to generate qualitative and quantitative data to shape Youth Work in the local area in partnership with Fife Council.
We are delighted that YouthLife will lead the transition work for P7-S1 from April to August 2025. This will involve working with the primary clusters and supporting them in S1 at Glenrothes High School. In managing this project YouthLife will be able to provide help to Glenrothes Community Learning and Development (CLD) Youth Work Team.
YouthLife and partners from education and (CLD) will look to introduce a new campaign against violence in schools. This leads to the development of a project which will challenge violence. Our youth work contributes significantly in the Glenrothes area and assists in progressing the Council’s Youth Strategy.
YouthLife – supporting Young People to grow, thrive and contribute to their local communities…
Through this we will:
- Increase youth work activity in partnership with other services for those that are particularly hard to reach through street work and are disengaged from education, with an aim of building confidence, raising self- esteem and resilience with the aim of reducing barriers caused by poverty and inequality.
- Provide opportunities for participation and learning in safe spaces designed by, and for, young people. To encourage and foster relationships to promote school attendance and safer communities and ensuring young people have a ‘voice’ and involvement through youth forums.
- Improve participation in health and wellbeing activity by increasing mental health and physical activity, whilst promoting positive peer support and volunteering opportunities and to have a pool of trained, skilled and committed volunteers who want to give back to their local community.
