David

Youth Work Volunteer

I started volunteering with Kilmarnock YMCA in March 2018 in the community garden where I helped redesign the space, plant new shrubs and flowers, and make the outdoor area welcoming for everyone.

During the summer of 2020, I had the chance to work directly with our young people during Summer Camp and quickly discovered how much I enjoyed it.

In 2024, I began training in youth work and hope to complete all the necessary qualifications to work with children full-time. In 2025, I led Little Sprouts, our kids gardening club, which ran from April to October.

Working with our young people has helped me grow as a person. I've become more compassionate, patient, and confident, and I've learned to listen, guide, and support others with care. I wouldn't be the person I am today without these experiences.

Emily

Youth Work Volunteer

I have been a part of Kilmarnock YMCA since I was about 6 years old. I have held many roles here and currently focus my attention on youth work activities or our community café.

I also sit on the board of trustees and I have enjoyed my years spent here developing my skills both personally and professionally.

If you can't find me in the building, you can find me spending time with my nephew!

Emily

Youth Worker

I have been a part of the YMCA for 3 years as a youth worker. I absolutely love doing arts and crafts, messy play, and being outdoors playing basketball or football with our young people.

When out of work, I love listening to music, going to concerns, and going on big walks.

Maham (She / Her)

Youth and Community Worker

I am a passionate community and youth worker who creates inclusive spaces where people of all ages feel supported, valued, and confident to reach their full potential. Originally from Pakistan, I have several years of experience in community development and youth empowerment, focusing on equality, wellbeing, and social inclusion.

At Kilmarnock YMCA, I suport young people through engagement programmes and work closely with the wider community. I run a group for over-50s and I'm leading new initiatives such as a Men's Group aimed at reducing isolation.

I hold an MSc in Human Rights from Glasgow Caledonian University and I'm dedicated to making a positive and lasting different through compassion, participation, and collaboration.

Meet our Managers

Hayley

Service Delivery Manager

I have been with Kilmarnock YMCA since January 2024. I started at our Community Café Manager and have now moved over to Service Delivery Manager.

I deal with the day-to-day running of the team and service offerings. You'll still find me in and around the café as I love a good coffee and a chat!

I also volunteer when I can, working with our young people and love to watch them grow in confidence, have fun, and gain new skills along the way.
