Leithers Vote To Grant YMCA Edinburgh £5,000

Leith Chooses is an initiative that invites people who work, live and study in Leith to decide how £44,000 of Community Grant Funding will be allocated.

Last month, members of the public voted for the project they feel most impacts their local community.

We’re thrilled to announce that YMCA Edinburgh has been awarded £5000 – the maximum amount that could be awarded – to fund the development of their women’s group. The group supports women, from all ages and background, who are socially isolated.

Not only will the funding enhance the vital services that YMCA Edinburgh provides, but it’s also a fantastic vote of confidence from their local community.

Mike Kerracher, Association Manager at Edinburgh YMCA said:

“Thanks to the people of Leith for voting for us and all involved in the Leith Chooses participatory budgeting event.

We are overjoyed and grateful of the support our proposal received. Our Women and Families work is long running in the community and has an important role in providing connection and support to a number of women. The funding will allow our staff and volunteers to facilitate a regular group focussed around the cooking and sharing of meals. This communal cooking and eating together will be the vehicle for connections to be made and relationships built, ultimately addressing social isolation. With such a diverse team in place and strong links across the community, we are confident we can reach women of all cultures and backgrounds.”
